I hope that clears things up a bit rather than confusing things. It is designed completely from the ground up for the new style introduced in Big Sur. However, you can restart your subscription at any time after stopping without a higher reinstatement fee. macOS Big Sur includes a beautiful new design and improvements to Safari, Messages, Maps, and more. If you stop paying, you will not be able to use Protools at all (This is different than the perpetual license where you can continue to use Protools, but only up to that version as you've found out). Most developers wait to test on the final version and doing so helps ensure accurate testing so that software and hardware will connect, install, and operate correctly. It you switch to the subscription plan, you will forfeit your current perpetual license and must pay monthly or annually for the subscription to use Protools. macOS 11 Big Sur has been released and is now available to the gerneral public.

To clarify, to resume your perpetual license, you need to reinstate your perpetual license (which is no longer available from Avid but some retail places may still have existing reinstatements available) and then annually purchase the update plan and support plan (combined and can not be purchase separately). macOS Big Sur includes a beautiful new design and improvements to Safari, Messages, Maps, and more. BUT, now it doesn't work, when clicked, the icon just bounces on the dock and force quit shows it not responding.

I'll repost this from another thread that might answer your question. Pro tools 11 on Big Sur I updated my OS without thinking, I have protools 11, have no intention to upgrade if I don't have to.
